Reflektor

My first electromechanical game, made of mirrors, lasers and Meccano.

You have to precisely align some mirrors so a laser reaches the goal, but only after solving puzzles and avoiding traps, and before time runs out. It’s inspired by Costa Panayi’s Deflektor, which I played in the eighties on a Czerweny CZ Spectrum, an Argentine ZX Spectrum clone.

Reflektor uses an Arduino for the game logic, another Arduino with an Adafruit Wave Shield for the music, and a custom board with 74HC595 and L293D chips to drive stepper motors salvaged from old floppy drives and printers. The controls and speaker come from a gutted radio. It also has a green laser, a smoke machine, plywood, and a lot of pre-1960s red and green Meccano.

It has been shown at the Museo del Juguete in San Isidro, Buenos Aires, among other places. You can read the original post and watch the video.
